CHOOSING the best study options may feel like a daunting task but once you’ve established your education goals and objectives, picking a course that meets your specific needs becomes easier.
What’s more, there are many pathways you can take on your way to getting a degree. These pathway programmes are a great foundation and could give you a head start in your academic career.
For Taylor’s College graduate Brandon Chai Zhe, pathway programmes such as Foundation, provided him the opportunity to not only prepare for university but also learn vital academic skills, knowledge and proficiency related to his degree.
“I have always known that I wanted to pursue a business course for my college major and even had some form of background experience in business in high school.
“I knew that I did not want to be burdened with exam-based curriculum like A-Levels, hence I opted for a foundation course at Taylor’s because I believe it is the best pathway to prepare me for my undergraduate programme in business,” said Chai.
Chai enrolled in Taylor’s Foundation in Business programme and recently graduated as one of the institution’s top achievers – having scored a CGPA of 4.0 with High Distinction.
“The foundation course provided me with knowledge, understanding and skills of the business field necessary for me to progress and be prepared for my undergraduate programme.
“My time completing the course has further solidified my degree choice as it provided an insight into the various different subjects, ranging from accounting to economics, and marketing as well as some more creative subjects such as CCTS, which is a critical and creative thinking class,” he said.
The Kuching-born university matriculate added that his strong academic performance was a testament to the university’s well-balanced ecosystem, Taylor’sphere, where it not only helped him get used to “university” teaching methods but also allowed him to be surrounded by a supportive community.
Chai was able to benefit from being part of the Taylor’s community, whereby students enrolled in either the college or the university are given full access to all the institution’s support services, societies and facilities to help them in pursuing their ambitions.
“The Taylor’sphere community made me feel much more at home and made the ‘new-college-student’ journey less daunting.
“From the dedicated lecturers who taught with humour and passion, to the vibrant campus life where I got to join various societies such as Bursa Young Investor Club, Taylor's Animal Welfare Society, Taylor’s Mixology Club, ETC Magazine and even campus support such as University Placement Services – the student experience at Taylor’s have really helped to push me in the right direction and support me in achieving my goals.
“Additionally, with the many facilities such as Bizpod and Trading Room, the well-balanced ecosystem has provided me with great insights and experiences to help me in achieving my ambitions to help better the lives of people and animals alike,” he said.
Chai is currently a first year Bachelor of Business (Honours) student specialising in Finance at Taylor’s University.
“I have decided to pursue my undergraduate studies at Taylor’s University. One of the reasons is because of the attractive scholarship and bursaries offerings from the institution – regardless of our financial status.
“It was also a motivating factor for me to study hard to achieve a perfect GPA, which has also allowed me to receive the Dean’s List Award for all three of my semesters,” he said.
