IN contrast to conventional air purifiers, Panasonic’s ziaino employs a unique technology that leverages on hypochlorous acid to actively clean the air in your room and quickly eliminate odours.
Hypochlorous acid has remarkable pollutant inhibition power and is safe for use in areas occupied by people, and it quickly suppresses the effects of bacteria and odours, according to Ichiro Suganuma, managing director of Panasonic QAFL business promotion.
The ziaino technology is highly effective against both airborne and adherent pollutants, making it viable to be used in large open spaces and safe for use even with people present in the same room.
“We have sold more than 300,000 units of ziaino units in Japan. They are widely used in clinics, offices and hotels. Most consumers cited invasive unpleasant odour as the main push factor to purchase ziaino to deodorise and refresh the air that they breathe,” says Suganuma.
Panasonic Malaysia recently launched ziaino locally at the Byond 28 Confinement Care centre in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.
“Confinement is a critical and sensitive period for postnatal mothers to receover,” says Byond 28 Confinement Care centre manager Sally Peh.
“At Byond28, our objective is to support parents before, during and after confinement. We provide an all-inclusive service that looks into the caretaking, food, emotional support, hygiene, safety, and wellbeing of the mothers and babies with our professional team of doctors, nurses, and lactation counsellors.”
The confinement centre is a standalone building with 30 rooms that are designed for the comfort of the mother, father and baby, with focus on providing easy access to emergency escapes, sunlight and fresh air.
Byond28 Confinement Care provides 24/7 baby care and mother care, five confinement meals per day, and other services such as postnatal massage, yoga, and hair spa.
“We want to provide a relaxed, comfortable and happy environment for mothers and newborn babies, and pristine air quality is part of that,” says Peh.
Panasonic Appliances Air-Conditioning Malaysia Sdn Bhd assistant manager Sae Kinjo explains that hypochlorous acid is used for various disinfection purposes, including baby bottles, fabric used in hospitals, tap water and swimming pools.
Hypochlorous acid is a powerful type of oxidising agent. It inactivates, sanitises, inhibits and deodorises bacteria, viruses and odour-causing organisms by "oxidising" them. Of the hypochlorous acid molecules, Cl+ is a powerful oxidative decomposition force as it exerts its decomposition power.
The unique difference about Panasonic ziaino is that it can constantly produce low concentrations of hypochlorous acid at near-neutral PH level.
Kinjo explains that the concentration of hypochlrorite is kept at safe levels, under 0.1ppm (parts per million) which is well below the NOAEL (chlorine gas limit) of 0.5ppm.
At Byond28, seven units of ziaino are deployed throughout the building, mainly to sanitise larger common areas such as training rooms, waiting areas and dining halls. Just one salt tablet is needed to run ziaino daily.
Why did Panasonic select a confinement centre to launch ziaino in this country?
“We understand that during confinement, both mother and baby need to boost their immune system for speedy recovery and to reduce risk of infections. Hence ziaino offers the perfect balance to effectively clean the air and surfaces and yet is safe to be used in co-existence with people,” says Suganuma.
Byond28’s confinement care philosophy is to support post natal mothers beyond the standard 28 days of confinement. Panasonic ziaino provides a clean and controlled environment with better indoor air quality for mothers to safely rejuvenate and newborn babies to grow healthily.
