Everything you need to make rendang, from Ayam BrandEverything you need to make rendang, from Ayam Brand

RENDANG, a popular dish among Malaysians especially during the Raya festive period, takes hours to cook to render the meat soft and succulent.

On a low flame it can take at least two to three hours, and up to 12 hours if you use a slow cooker.

Now, thanks to the Ayam Brand starter pack, you can enjoy rendang within half an hour.

All you need is the Ayam Brand rendang paste, Ayam Brand kerisik (toasted grated coconut) and Ayam Brand coconut milk and you can get started on cooking tasty rendang. Just add your meat of choice.

Quality products

Ayam Brand, a famous household brand among Malaysians with more than 130 years experience in the food manufacturing business, has recently launched its new range of rendang paste that is made without preservatives, flavour enhancer, added monosodium glutamate (MSG) nor additives.

The kerisik has no colouring, preservatives nor artificial flavouring; the same goes for the coconut milk.

Other than rendang, Ayam Brand also offers three pastes for consumers to make quick meals of curry chicken, asam pedas and sambal tumis – perfect for a busy household while maintaining the authentic flavours that Malaysians are familiar with.

Cooking method

Three steps and 30 minutes, that’s all it takes:

Step 1: Heat cooking oil in the pot. Add Ayam Brand rendang paste and stir fry until fragrant.

Step 2: Add 500g of chicken/meat/seafood into the pot, stir until it is semi-cooked. Pour in 120ml of Ayam Brand coconut milk and stir with the meat.

Step 3: Add one pack of 40g Ayam Brand kerisik to thicken the dish. Stir well, make sure to coat the meat with the kerisik.

Continue to stir occasionally until the oil rises – indicative of a well-cooked rendang. All done in 30 minutes. Simple as that.

While rendang is usually eaten with rice, it makes a perfect burger too.

Step 1: Cut chuck roast into 5cm cubes. Saute the meat in a pan with two tablespoons of cooking oil until the sides are brown. Add a bowl of beef stock then transfer into a pressure cooker to cook until tender. Then shred the beef down to small strips.

Step 2: Heat some cooking oil in a pan. Add Ayam Brand rendang paste and stir fry until fragrant. Add some onions and stir to mix evenly.

Step 3: Add the beef into the pan and mix well with the rendang paste. Then, add 100ml of Ayam Brand coconut milk followed by a pack of 40g Ayam Brand kerisik to thicken the dish. Make sure to coat the meat with kerisik.

Step 4: Assemble the burger with your choice of salad and cheese.
