FOR many students, their time in college and university is often regarded as the most memorable and transformative years in their lives.
These institutions of higher learning provide a platform for academic discovery, allowing students to explore various fields of study and pursue their passions.
Additionally, these educational institutions offer students wide opportunities to foster social interactions with peers from different cultures, perspectives and experiences, while also nurturing essential life skills that are crucial to be well-rounded individuals.
With the Taylor’sphere ecosystem at Taylor’s, students will experience a unique higher education journey with a nurturing environment that encourages personal and professional development, guiding students to embark on a path that goes beyond learning.
This is true for Nur Hanani Syamsul Firdaus, Natalea Tan Ho Le Xuan, Meesha Aloysius and James Richard Williamson, who were among the recipients of Taylor’s College Top Achievers for the April 2023 ceremony.
The graduating batch consisted of 450 students from Cambridge A-Level, South Australian Certificate of Education International (SACEi), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and Foundation programmes.
Nur Hanani studied Cambridge A-Level and achieved 2A*2A in Mathematics, Economics, Accounting, and Law. She credited her lecturers’ passion for teaching and for being very accommodating to her.
“As I come from a science background, it took me some time to explore and understand the subjects,” said Nur Hanani.
“With the motivation and help of my lecturers, I was able to excel and enjoy studying my subjects”, she revealed.
She added that she will be progressing to University of Manchester, United Kingdom to pursue Economics later this year.
She was the co-director of Informal Events of the Taylor’s College Student Council and actively participated in Taylor’s Lakeside Model United Nations (TLMUN), which enhanced her student life by developing her soft skills and connecting with others from different backgrounds.
She shared, “I was looking for opportunities to meet new people, and I met lots of like-minded people who shared the same values that I hold.
“It was an enriching experience, where I discovered my passion for event management and had opportunities to acquire skills that I would not have attained elsewhere.”
Meesha and Williamson were also supported by the Taylorian community throughout their academic journey, making lifelong friends from diverse backgrounds, learning from dedicated lecturers, and getting involved in clubs and societies.
Meesha studied Foundation in Natural and Built Environments as she prefers practical application in her programme, graduating with a 3.8 CGPA, while Williamson studied Foundation in Arts and scored a 4.0 CGPA. Both will be progressing to Taylor’s University and pursuing their passion for architecture.
For Natalea, she made a deliberate choice to study SACEi after much research as she was driven to challenge herself and explore the intriguing course structure that comprised of 70% college-based assessment and 30% final examination.
“Not only did I gain knowledge during my time at Taylor’s College, but I honed my time management skills, efficiently balancing coursework, extracurricular activities, and personal commitments.
“Recognising the importance of preparing myself for future challenges, I embraced every opportunity for growth and self-improvement,” she elaborated.
She achieved a 94.25 ATAR in the November 2022 examination and is looking ahead to her next adventure in Canada.
She explained, “The University Placement Services (UPS) at Taylor’s College have been instrumental in guiding me through the application process, providing all the resources needed and ensuring a smooth transition.”
