THE Allianz Truck Warrior, the first roadside assistance coverage for goods carrying vehicle (comprehensive) policyholders involved in breakdowns, has seen strong demand with more than 5,000 sign-ups for the add-on coverage since its official launch in February 2023.
Allianz customers enjoy the benefits of the coverage by buying the motor insurance policy and adding on RM120 for Allianz Truck Warrior.
With Allianz Truck Warrior, policyholders get roadside assistance services up to three times a year, which includes towing of their goods carrying vehicles up to 100km roundtrip by a dedicated fleet of tow trucks, as well as on-site repair service for breakdowns.
Customers are also covered with flood relief allowance of up to RM5,000 per flood event in the event the vehicle is damaged by flood.
To qualify for the coverage, the vehicle has to fulfill the following criteria; the goods carrying vehicle has to have an A or C permit with comprehensive cover, up to 7.5 tonnes Gross Vehicle Weight or more popularly known as Berat Dengan Muatan (BDM), and the age of the vehicle is 20 years or less.
Allianz Truck Warrior is the latest in the Allianz Road Rangers fleet which offers roadside assistance to motorcycles, cars and now – goods carrying vehicles.
Stress-free benefits
Allianz General Insurance Company Bhd’s chief claims officer Damian Williams pointed out that while the average cost of towing a lorry when it breaks down is about RM800, for only RM120, Allianz customers can enjoy this stress-free benefit.
"For emergencies such as tyre punctures, running out of fuel, dead batteries – those can be resolved on-site. If it's something that our technicians cannot handle, the goods carrying vehicle will be towed," he said.
Damian said the Allianz Road Rangers roadside assistance fleet has 50 service/rescue trucks in the Peninsular, and 30 trucks in East Malaysia for Truck Warrior policyholders.
"For motorcars, the fleet size is more than 280 service/rescue trucks," he added.
Regarding the volume of roadside assistance cases, Damian said the company is seeing about 30 cases (Truck Warrior goods vehicles); 7,500 cases (motorcars) and 50 cases (motorcycles) each month.
Rescue done right
As far as Damian is aware, the Allianz Truck Warrior add-on coverage is the first of its kind in Malaysia. Allianz first initiated the coverage with motorcars in 2017, for good reason.
"When an accident occurs, you will have a lot of "helpful" people offering assistance such as towing your car. A lot of our customers were actually "cheated" and misled,” he said.
“Customers would call us and inform us that our representatives have taken their cars, but when we run checks, we would not find any records of claims submitted to us,” he said, adding that investigations into such matters revealed that these people offering towing services would cause further delays due to negotiations with workshops for commissions.
Damian pointed out that with the Allianz Truck Warrior – an add-on coverage introduced in 2023, customers get end-to-end coverage during a vehicle breakdown, and can avoid the hassle of haggling, waiting and coercion.
"At only an extra RM120, the Truck Warrior add-on coverage provides value," said Damian.
