TAYLOR’S College is at the forefront of purpose-driven education, where the core emphasis is on equipping students with a profound sense of purpose.
Central to this educational philosophy is Taylor'sphere, a comprehensive and holistic learning ecosystem that recognises the significance of intellect and the transformative potential of practical experience in connecting students with real-world opportunities to effect positive change.
At the heart of Taylor'sphere is a commitment to active community engagement. Rather than merely exploring the concept of making a positive impact in theory, students are actively involved in concrete initiatives that enhance the well-being of those in their immediate surroundings.
This hands-on approach empowers them to apply their acquired knowledge and skills to tackle real-world challenges, leaving a lasting impact that extends well beyond the confines of the conventional classroom.
Creative hub Mereka lends its expertise in cabinet construction, while FMCG organisations like Adabi Consumer Industries, Gardenia Bakeries KL, Jasmine Food Corporation, Kotex Malaysia, and Unilever Malaysia actively restock cabinets with essential items, including bread, deodorant, hand soap, instant beverages, rice, sanitary pads, shampoo, and soup paste. This ensures that students in need have continuous access to these essential supplies.
According to Taylor’s College campus director Josephine Tan, the initiative was born in response to the rising cost of essential goods, which was impacting many families.
She expressed their commitment to supporting families and creating equitable access to academic excellence by dedicating RM200,000 to this cause.
“This is the right avenue for our students at Taylor’s to be involved in real-world issues and make a difference in the community.
“Together with our partners, this initiative supports the country’s nation-building agenda for education accessibility and sustainability practices, ensuring an inclusive future for the students.”
Throughout the year, the project will distribute 4,200 to 7,000 units of supplies to 14 schools, averaging 300 to 500 units per school per month from all five partner sponsors.
The impact has been profound, with increased attendance rates ranging from 73% to 96% monthly and food relief for students who might not have access to meals during recess.
This initiative goes beyond the mere distribution of cabinets and supplies; it's about nurturing kindness and fostering community involvement.
In addition to Taylor’s students' active participation, the initiative offers talks in participating schools, sharing success stories from other schools and guiding students on how to initiate similar projects in their own schools with their own peers, led by school counsellors and 'Pembimbing Rakan Sebaya' students who serve as role models.
Jasmine Food Corporation (JFC), a leading producer and distributor of rice in Malaysia, plays a pivotal role in CAREbinet by The Risers.
JFC marketing director Farhan Hafetz emphasised their commitment to the initiative and the belief in the power of education in shaping the nation’s future leaders.
He noted that this initiative instils a sense of social responsibility in students and provides consistent supplies of essential goods, ultimately benefiting underserved communities.
“It is not enough for us to do this alone, but together with Taylor’s College and the other partners, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of students and their families.”
He hoped that this initiative's reach could be expanded to impact even more lives and encouraged other organisations to join hands in shaping the next generation.
In 2024, Taylor's College aims to broaden its outreach to schools in other districts in Selangor, inviting additional organisations to participate in this initiative. The underlying belief is that every student should have access to quality education and a nurturing community.
