THE perfect home is a sum of all its parts. One crucial yet often overlooked part is a ceiling fan.
Thanks to the hot and humid Malaysian weather, it is not an understatement to say that ceiling fans are indeed an important, albeit material, “member of the family”.
Choosing the right fan, however, can be a daunting task, which is why the experts at KDK have given a few tips to consider when purchasing a new ceiling fan.
Room size
First off, you will have to decide on your needs and what type of controls you would like to have.
Also, make sure to determine the size and height of the room in which you want to place the ceiling fan.
You’ll need to account for at least 1m between the fan blade and the wall, and ensure that the room is at least 2.3m high.
For example, a 150cm ceiling fan should fit a room size of at least 350 x 350cm.
The right fan for the right space
KDK ceiling fans come in a variety of colours, such as white, grey, dark brown, dark grey, black, silver and bronze.
This is one of the reasons why they are suitable for all spaces and concepts, with the fans also boasting modern and minimalistic designs that come in both long and short blade styles.
Fan type
Budget is also another important factor to take into consideration. If you are working with a low budget, a good option would be a ceiling fan with a regulator, which is available from RM185 to RM225.
If you would rather pick a basic ceiling fan that comes with a remote control, you will need to set aside RM285 to RM665.
For more luxe options, consider getting one of KDK’s direct current (DC) series fans, as DC motors are well-known for its power-efficient abilities which save more electricity and are more environmentally friendly.
KDK has a number of DC ceiling fans on offer such as the K18NY, K14ZW, K15UW, K15Z5, K12UC, K15UC, K12YC, K14TE, K14QF, K12UX, K15YC and K15YX.
If DC fans do not pique your interest, you won’t have to worry about losing out on energy savings as all KDK ceiling fans are designed with energy-efficient technology.
KDK fans come with a five-star energy rating from the Energy Commission – making them certified sustainable and green appliances.
Fan size
If you have a small room, a short-bladed fan would be the perfect choice, as the blade length leaves enough space for air to channel downward.
A large-diameter fan in a small room will not be able to channel air downward due to the limited space for the air to flow down.
Materials-wise, there is nothing to worry about as all KDK fans have been specifically designed to combat the Malaysian heat.
In terms of the number of fan blades, KDK offers three, four, five, six-bladed fan types, which cater to different needs and requirements.
When it comes to airflow, all blade configurations give off the same amount of wind, but three-bladed fans tend to emit choppy air while five-bladed fans provide a more soft and natural airflow.
Cleaning and maintenance tips
To ensure smooth and clean air quality at all times, you will have to ensure that your ceiling is clean.
To do this, you will need to gently wipe down the fan with clean water (without detergent) and be careful not to bend the blades by accident.
For maintenance purposes, you have to make sure that the main electricity switch is turned off and let the fan rest if it is in use.
