THE recently launched HONOR Magic6 Pro, acclaimed as the “Magic Phone”, has taken the local market by storm with early bird promotion offers being sold out before its official launch on Mar 20. The HONOR Magic6 Pro priced at RM4,499, now comes with free pre-order gifts worth up to RM1,960.
The flagship smartphone has garnered attention and praise from consumers and industry experts alike for adopting advanced and innovative artificial intelligence (AI) features, such as large language models and generative AI.
Coming out of Huawei’s shadow
Formerly a sub-brand of Huawei, HONOR has swiftly emerged from its parent company’s shadow since going independent in 2020.
While most of its product offerings were largely similar to Huawei’s offerings in its initial stages, HONOR has since developed a slew of cutting-edge technologies, evidenced by the HONOR Magic6 Pro’s groundbreaking self-developed technologies and features.
The smartphone is equipped with industry-leading technology in various aspects including its display, with the HONOR Magic6 Pro fitted with HONOR’s NanoCrystal Shield – which is ten times tougher than normal glass, and even stronger than Corning Gorilla Glass.
The HONOR Magic6 Pro also comes with the largest battery among mainstream flagship phones in the market with a 5,600mAh capacity silicon carbon battery, ensuring long battery life in low temperatures while maintaining a slim body.
Its revolutionary 180MP Tele-falcon camera also provides an innovative photography experience as it can capture fast-moving objects clearly and snap ultra-high clarity photos even after zooming in.
Coupled with the Magic Portal on-device generative AI feature, the HONOR Magic6 Pro makes complex functions more accessible with its intent-based shortcut recommendation feature.
Gaining popularity
Since becoming independent, HONOR has quickly established its own production line and research and development (R&D) team, as well as re-establishing cooperation with local telco operators and dealers, and industry partners such as Google, Microsoft and Qualcomm.
Within three years of charting its own course, HONOR has opened 70 stores in Malaysia, with the latest store at The Exchange TRX in Kuala Lumpur set to open its doors soon.
The brand’s offerings have also grown over the past few years, with three HONOR smartphones – the HONOR X9b, HONOR 90 and HONOR X9a – making it into the Top 10 Gadgets on Google Trends in Malaysia 2023. The HONOR X9b was ranked second just behind the iPhone 15.
The brand’s smartphones have also gained recognition from the industry, with key collaborations with prominent brands such as Porsche for the HONOR Magic V2 Porsche design smartphone and the recently launched HONOR Magic6 Pro RSR.
Qualcomm president Cristiano Amon also praised the collaboration between Qualcomm and HONOR on AI, highlighting how the HONOR Magic6 Pro’s AI features will revolutionise user experience.
Consumer-centric approach
HONOR has consistently adhered to a consumer-centric approach with heavy investment in R&D.
Among its 13,000 employees globally, 60% are R&D personnel, who serve as an innovation engine to drive the brand’s technological advancements.
From the release of the HONOR Magic4 Pro to the HONOR Magic6 Pro, each smartphone has received a positive response from consumers, with the HONOR Magic5 Pro even claiming the top spot in its segment.
This was thanks to the company’s proactive approach to addressing consumer pain points from the HONOR Magic4 Pro to optimise the smartphone’s system and significantly reduce potential issues for the launch of the HONOR Magic5 Pro.
Today, with the HONOR Magic6 Pro, the brand continues to collaborate closely with the local community to test product optimisation algorithms in advance to provide consumers with a seamless user experience.
