Omoda and Jaecoo to launch highly bionic gait-walking robot

Chery Automobile has developed an intelligent service-oriented bipedal robot called Mornine, which makes its global debut at the company’s ecological press conference on April 30.

ROBOTICS company Boston Dynamics recently released a YouTube video that quickly became the centre of attention.

However, this video marked a departure from the norm, signifying the end of the much-celebrated hydraulic-driven humanoid robot development project, Atlas.

Atlas’ retirement not only symbolises the end of an era but also heralds a new beginning. The new wave in the hard tech domain of humanoid robots is now sweeping into the automobile manufacturing industry.

Personalised automotive brand Omoda and Jaecoo has followed suit and unveiled its latest robot development strategy. In collaboration with strategic partner AiMOGA, Chery Automobile has developed an intelligent service-oriented bipedal robot called Mornine, which makes its global debut at the company’s ecological press conference on April 30.

For Omoda and Jaecoo, whether it’s autonomous driving, human-machine interaction, machine vision or artificial intelligence (AI), the accumulation of these technologies shares commonalities with the development of humanoid robots, presenting a significant advantage as they enter the robotics field.

Birth of the world’s first highly bionic gait-walking robot

Mornine is the first robot globally to feature a highly bionic gait-walking mechanism and is powered by the mainstream electric drive.

In terms of aesthetic design, Mornine innovatively integrates highly bionic silicone, lightweight alloys and other high-tech materials, offering a more lifelike tactile experience and a more robust mechanical structure, which can replicate the futuristic mech image of Omoda’s digital humans.

Based on a high-dynamic response control algorithm, Mornine can perform gait-walking, arm grasping, waist twisting, head shaking and talking.

Simultaneously, with the support of a general AI large model, endowed with automotive-specific professional knowledge, the specialised industry model enhances Mornine’s ability to deliver a unique interaction experience that adapts to thousands of people with hundreds of personalities, smoothly providing professional consultations, product promotions and more in a variety of scenarios like 4S stores and shopping malls.

Coincidentally, after Atlas’ retirement, Boston Dynamics uploaded a promotional video for an all-electric powered robot, signalling the move towards the electric drive and AI-enhanced directions.

With ongoing enhancements in industrial layouts and technological breakthroughs, humanoid robots are at a crucial phase of deep application, as they have the potential for more ground-breaking application scenarios, on top of electrification and intelligence, sketching an even more imaginative future.

Bringing sci-fi into reality with the O-Universe

Earlier this year, Omoda released a series of short sci-fi films, with Mornine being one of the stars. These films showcased Omoda’s O-Universe, a personalised future ecology linking real life with the virtual world, providing users with an experience transcending mere automobiles.

This time, Omoda has brought Mornine from the realm of sci-fi blockbusters into reality, further extending the boundaries of the O-Universe ecology – making futuristic lifestyle fantasies more tangible.

At the ecological press conference held at Omoda and Jaecoo’s headquarters in Wuhu, China, Mornine will also interact directly with the guests. Through rich AI-driven interactions and immersive experiences, the attendees will be able to fully appreciate the intelligent allure of this new humanoid robot of the future.

Omoda and Jaecoo's unveiling of Mornine offers us a glimpse into future living, as the O-Universe ecosystem has transformed vehicles from a mere mode of transportation into a pivotal link that connects all aspects of the user's life.

As this ecosystem continues to be refined, Omoda and Jaecoo is poised to provide superior personalised services, venturing towards a multi-scenario, multi-domain future.
