IN TODAY’s competitive higher education landscape, where students seek both degrees and clear career paths, Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU) stands out as a beacon of excellence for its Actuarial Science programme.
This QS Five Stars Plus-rated and Premier Digital Tech University has carved out a position for itself, earning worldwide recognition for its high standards and innovative approach.
APU recently achieved another milestone by being awarded the prestigious Silver status by the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), a well-known institution based in the US, adding to its global recognition with block exemptions offered by both the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), UK, and Society of Actuaries (SoA), US.
The recognition promotes APU to an elite group of global educational institutions, joining the ranks of just 14 universities worldwide to achieve this prestigious status on the CAS University Recognition List.
The rigorous recognition process by CAS validates APU’s Actuarial Science programmes’ academic rigour and curriculum relevance, demonstrating the university’s unwavering commitment to excellence in this field.
The Actuarial Science programme, under APU’s School of Mathematics, Actuarial and Quantitative Studies (SoMAQS) seamlessly integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application, ensuring that students have the necessary skills and expertise to succeed in the dynamic field of actuarial science.
The CAS Silver Recognition status not only certifies the quality of APU’s Actuarial Science programme but also enhances the global reputation and credibility of degrees earned by its graduates.
Designed for success
APU graduates are well-positioned to pursue exciting jobs as property and casualty actuaries in a wide range of industries, both locally and globally.
By incorporating industry trends and technological advancements, APU continues to innovate
and evolve in response to the ever-changing landscape of actuarial science education.
The Actuarial Science programme with two of the “hottest” specialisms in tech – data analytics and financial technology (FinTech) – is perhaps the first and only programme of its kind offered in Malaysia.
This unique combination integrates seamlessly with APU’s actuarial science degree programmes, ensuring graduates are well-equipped for the demands of the fourth industrial revolution (IR4.0).
Both the data analytics and fintech programmes are fully accredited by the IFoA, UK.
APU actuarial graduates who attain a minimum threshold mark are eligible for block exemptions from CS1, CS2, CM1, CM2, CB1 and CB2 in the current IFoA curriculum.
Comprehensive and renowned global education
SoMAQS head Assoc Prof Dr Rajasegeran Ramasamy highlights that the IFoA and CAS recognition opens doors to a broader world of career possibilities for APU graduates.
“APU’s actuarial graduates have a strong employment record across various industries, and employers preferred choice with majority of them securing positions in the insurance and finance sectors,” he says.
“In these industries, actuaries typically focus on pricing, risk management and product development.
“Recognising this need, APU is the first university to introduce the Actuarial Product Development module, which integrates actuarial skills with project management expertise.”
Faculty members at APU, many of whom have notable designations, such as Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and Associate of the Society of Actuaries, contribute a wealth of real-world experience and expertise to the classroom.
The Actuarial Studies qualifications are dual awards by APU and De Montfort University (DMU), UK. Students will receive two degree certificates and transcripts upon graduation ― one from APU and one from DMU.
