Founded in 1908, Great Eastern celebrated its 116th anniversary recently by continuing to put its customers and their goals at the heart of all its initiatives for 2024.

The Great You campaign is one such initiative, where the company celebrated how its customers overcame the challenges in their lives to achieve greatness.

By engaging them to share their stories on social media, the company believes its customers can be a force of inspiration to other Malaysians.

“Protecting and preserving the aspirations that matter to our customers is what drives us at Great Eastern,” said Great Eastern Life Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Koh Yaw Hui.

“As Malaysia’s largest and most established life insurer, we believe that it is our responsibility to help our customers achieve their potential in life and Reach for Great.”

Providing protection and value where it matters

To thank its customers on its 116th anniversary, Great Eastern introduced the Legacy Cancer Coverage Campaign, where its policyholders can secure complimentary cancer protection up to RM200,000 for the first five policy years when they sign up for selected insurance plans.

This is complemented by an upgrade to the company’s preferred hospitals programme, which was expanded to 33 private hospitals with hassle-free admission and discharge, the waiver of selected fees and an express children’s hospitalisation programme for parents with kids under twelve.

The claims process has also been simplified with the e-claims service, which allows its customers to self-submit their claims directly to Great Eastern.

This makes the claims and payout process quicker and hassle-free, supporting the customers at their time of need.

Caring for the community and environment

Giving back to the community and environment is a commitment that requires long-term involvement to succeed.

To make a lasting impact, continuous ongoing programmes help foster a culture of volunteerism and responsibility at Great Eastern for the ESG causes it supports.

Children are the best way to influence the future, which is why many of the company’s programmes seek to empower them with financial literacy, education, health and wellness and personal development.

With food sustainability a key issue, a food waste management initiative was launched to rescue surplus food from going to the landfill by redistributing them to vulnerable communities.

Through this initiative, 3,159kg of food was rescued, 209kg of organic compost produced, 7,898kg of greenhouse gas emissions reduced and 9,025 meals provided to underprivileged homes and low-income families.
