BMS 2024 empowers parents as ‘superheroes’ for kids’ higher education

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) recently launched Bulan Menabung Simpan SSPN (BMS) 2024 in conjunction with World Savings Day, celebrated annually on Oct 31, targeting RM220mil in deposits for Simpan SSPN.

BMS is a signature programme by PTPTN, focused on strengthening the savings culture among Malaysians and promoting Simpan SSPN as the preferred savings product. This year marks the seventh consecutive year of the event since its inception in 2018.

The on-ground event took place over four days (Sept 26-29), with the launch ceremony officiated by PTPTN chairman Datuk Seri Norliza Abdul Rahim at MyTown Shopping Centre here, in the presence of PTPTN chief executive Ahmad Dasuki Abdul Majid, Hong Leong MSIG Takaful chief executive officer Mohd Asri Omar, Elite Definition Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Mohamad Farhan Mohd Fawzi and the senior management team.

The theme for BMS 2024, “Fantasy,” aligns with World Dream Day, celebrated annually on Sept 25. The theme, along with the tagline “Let’s be your child’s superhero,” aims to nurture creativity and stimulate the imagination of children, encouraging them to explore knowledge and new experiences, ultimately unlocking their true potential.

This aligns with PTPTN’s motto, “Your Opportunity to Succeed,” which focuses on helping children achieve their dreams through diligent effort and sound financial planning.

Various engaging activities have been organised for both parents and children, including the Simpan SSPN colouring contest, Simpan SSPN Action Song competition, PTPTN e-Sport Challenge (Mobile Legends: Bang Bang), Simpan SSPN Got Talent, Simpan SSPN Jenga family competition, baby crawling race, Simpan SSPN Kahoot! quiz, and special appearances by Didi & Friends and P&T, along with celebrity guests.

Visitors to the PTPTN booth also had the chance to receive a special edition BMS 2024 savings box and exclusive gifts for making deposits in Simpan SSPN.

The BMS 2024 initiative is a pivotal part of PTPTN’s ongoing mission to empower parents as “superheroes” for their children by preparing financially for higher education.

The goal is to help reduce the community’s dependency on student loans and foster a culture of financial readiness for the future.

Norliza said, “This year marks two decades of Simpan SSPN. PTPTN has faced numerous challenges to ensure that Simpan SSPN remains relevant and competitive as the best savings product in the country.

“The Simpan SSPN deposits have consistently shown remarkable growth and as of Aug 31, we have accumulated RM18.85bil in deposits with 6.54 million accounts. This reflects Simpan SSPN’s excellence as the leading savings product in Malaysia.”

“Given the strong performance in deposit collection over the past six years of BMS, I am optimistic that BMS 2024 will achieve an extraordinary level of savings for Simpan SSPN.

“This year, PTPTN is targeting RM220mil in deposits for Simpan SSPN. I believe that, with the support and cooperation from various stakeholders and strategic promotional initiatives, this target is within reach,” she added.

Simpan SSPN offers numerous benefits to Malaysians, including tax relief of up to RM8,000 per year, takaful protection for depositors, competitive dividends, matching grants of up to RM10,000 per eligible family, Shariah compliance and government-guaranteed savings.

Additionally, PTPTN has intensified campaigns and promotional activities to further encourage saving, including the WOW! Simpan SSPN draw campaign 2024.

During the BMS 2024 launch event, appreciation certificates were presented to strategic partners of BMS 2024, prizes were awarded to the winners of the WOW! Simpan SSPN draw (WOW! Kasih series draw category) and to the winners of the Simpan SSPN Action Song competition.

PTPTN also unveiled a newly refreshed corporate theme song, aligning with the latest trends in the music industry. This rebranding effort reflects PTPTN’s ongoing initiatives to enhance its positive image and maintain relevance in the eyes of the public, especially the younger generation.

As an agency under the Higher Education Ministry (MOHE), PTPTN remains committed to raising public awareness of the importance of saving through Simpan SSPN, aiming to reduce reliance on student loans.

PTPTN believes this effort will gain strong support from all parties, contributing to the realisation of its vision of becoming Malaysia’s leading education fund.
