UNIVERSITY of Wollongong (UOW) Malaysia’s School of Business lecturers Hanaliza Kamis, Sheela Karunaharan Thanaraj and Dr Jasmine Phan Ah Kiaw secured the bronze medal at the International University Carnival on E-Learning (IUCEL) 2024 and the Congress and Innovation Competition in Teaching and Learning (kNovasi) 2024.
The IUCEL 2024 and kNovasi 2024 attracted submissions from hundreds of national and international educators and researchers to showcase cutting-edge teaching and learning pedagogies.
Organised by the Centre for Teaching and Curriculum Development of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), the annual event celebrates innovation in higher education and was launched with a keynote address by Higher Education director-general Prof Dr Azlinda Azman.
The UOW Malaysia team’s success in the competition highlights their dedication to pushing the boundaries of classroom-bound education and enhancing student engagement through creative methodologies.
Their innovative submission, Exploring Career Realities: A Job Shadowing Initiative, demonstrated a fresh approach to experiential learning by integrating a job shadowing programme as part of a course assignment.
This initiative allowed their students to gain hands-on experience and deeper insights into their potential future careers, transforming the traditional classroom environment into a more dynamic and impactful learning space.
By participating in the job shadowing programme, students were able to gain an understanding of the workplace, giving them the opportunity to observe and interact with professionals while bridging the gap between theory and practice.
This approach provided them with valuable perspectives on how their academic studies translate into real-world practices, enriching their overall educational experience.
