Gentari: A year of focused growth in 2023

THROUGHOUT 2024, clean energy solutions provider Gentari has charted significant progress in growing and strengthening its position as a regional leader in renewable energy, hydrogen and green mobility in Asia Pacific.

Strategic partnerships with key industry players since its official launch in 2022 supported the company’s strategic advancements in 2024, reinforcing its ability to drive the region’s clean energy transition towards a net zero future.

With its partners, Gentari is actively addressing challenges to support the transition to a low-carbon economy.

“As we close 2024, I am proud of the tangible progress Gentari has made in delivering practical clean energy solutions across Asia Pacific,” said Gentari chief executive officer Sushil Purohit.

“This year, our collaborations and focused efforts have enabled us to contribute to decarbonisation initiatives and support meaningful advancements. We remain committed to making a measurable impact on the energy transition.”

To date, Gentari has secured 8 GW of installed and under construction renewable energy capacity across its markets. In Malaysia, the company has made significant strides in expanding its renewable energy footprint, with upcoming floating solar projects in Sarawak and Terengganu set to enhance its contributions to the nation’s clean energy transition.

Regionally, India saw substantial growth, marked by key milestones including the commissioning of an interstate transmission system-connected solar project, securing a wind-solar hybrid power project and the successful commissioning of wind turbines for a co-located solar and wind project.

Gentari India country head Navjit Gill said: “Gentari's growth in India in 2024 highlights the opportunities within the country’s dynamic energy landscape. As a key market, we are dedicated to supporting India’s energy transition with solutions in renewable energy, hydrogen and green mobility, aligned with local needs and priorities.”

Other markets, such as Australia, witnessed Gentari’s renewable energy expansion, including the Final Investment Decision (FID) for a solar-battery energy storage system (BESS) hybrid project.

Gentari Solar Australia chief executive officer Andrew Barson shared, “Australia's abundant land and sunshine make it ideal for expanding clean energy capacity, particularly in solar.

“This year, Gentari has focused on building dispatchable solar and BESS hybrid power plants and enhancing our portfolio with BESS infrastructure to maximise our contribution to the country’s renewable energy potential.”

In hydrogen, the company saw the maturation of 175 KTPA of hydrogen opportunities, including the conditional FID for a 1 MTPA green ammonia plant with AMG Ammonia in India. Proposed and planned hydrogen projects across Malaysia, India and Singapore continued to progress through developmental stages, while a strategic partnership with MISC sought to strengthen logistics capabilities for Gentari’s hydrogen pillar.

In the green mobility segment, Gentari continued to expand its portfolio with local and regional partners, closing the year with approximately 1,000 charging points (CPs) across the region, forming part of a growing cross-border roaming network of over 5,000 CPs spanning Malaysia, India, Thailand and Singapore. To further enhance sustainability, Gentari launched its first BESS for CPs in Perak – the first of its kind in South-East Asia.

Meanwhile, Gentari’s Vehicle-as-a-Service (VaaS) offering has deployed over 3,600 EVs across Malaysia, India and Indonesia, clocking in over 44 million electric kilometres driven and contributing to carbon avoidance of around 1,357 tCO2e.

“Gentari’s efforts in green mobility reflect our commitment to addressing Asia Pacific’s unique transportation challenges while contributing to the broader transition towards sustainability,” said Gentari deputy chief executive officer and Gentari Green Mobility chief executive officer Shah Yang Razalli.

“Through initiatives like our cross-border EV roaming network and VaaS offering, we strive to make it easier for businesses and individuals to embrace clean transportation solutions.”

To complement the expansion of these services, the company introduced Gentari Go, an integrated customer experience platform in Malaysia, India and Thailand, offering a one-stop platform for sustainable energy adoption. Other initiatives involved partnerships with local governments and sectors such as automotive, e-commerce, and finance to accelerate the transition to sustainable transportation in Malaysia and the region.

To further simplify the net zero journey for customers in industries as diverse as fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), retail, manufacturing and technology, Gentari launched Decarbonisation-as-a-Service (DaaS). This comprehensive, one-stop solution offers tailored, end-to-end decarbonisation strategies, providing cohesive pathways to optimise carbon footprint reduction while connecting customers to an extensive ecosystem of advanced technologies, innovative approaches and impactful collaborations – streamlining the journey toward achieving sustainability goals.

The company’s progress and achievements have not gone unnoticed in the industry. Recently, Gentari was recognised by the Energy Council with the Energy Transition Company of the Year Award at the Asia Pacific Energy Capital Assembly Awards 2024.

Gentari recognises that achieving a sustainable energy future is a shared responsibility, requiring the collective efforts of policymakers, industry leaders and businesses. The collaborative strides made across the clean energy landscape in 2024 have laid a strong foundation for continued growth.

As Gentari looks ahead, it remains committed to advancing the energy transition, proud to contribute to these efforts. Together with its partners, the company aims to drive impactful, sustainable outcomes that will shape a cleaner, more resilient future for the region.
