PETALING JAYA: TikTok will be increasing seller transaction and commission fees across all product categories on its built-in ecommerce shopping platform starting from Sept 5.

The revision will see seller transaction fees rise from 2.16% to 3.78%, both inclusive of an 8% sales tax, or SST according to updates made to the company's TikTok Academy, an ecommerce training platform for its sellers.

TikTok will also implement different commission fees for Marketplace (regular users who operate a store page on the platform) and Mall (authorised retail outlets and brand flagship stores) sellers.

Marketplace commission rates on TikTok Shop will vary by product category and are inclusive of 8% SST.

Electronics will range between 4.86% to 9.18%, fashion between 8.10% to 10.26%, FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) between 6.48% to 11.34%, and lifestyle between 6.48% to 10.26%.

These rates are presented as ranges because they depend on the specific subcategory of the product.

For Mall sellers, the commission rates appear to be higher, with electronics ranging between 8.10% to 12.42%, fashion between 11.34% to 13.5%, FMCG between 3.24% to 14.58%, and lifestyle between 9.72% to 13.5%.

Previously, both categories of sellers shared an identical commission fee structure, with electronics ranging between 2.70% to 4.32%, fashion at 4.32%, fast-moving consumer goods (FCMG) between 0% to 4.32%, and lifestyle between 3.24% to 4.32%.
