The latest top smartphones from Asus feature artificial intelligence (AI) that's designed to help users take better photos.

The AI in the Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5Z can identify what the user is taking a picture of and automatically apply the ideal settings for the best results.

Both phones have 6.2-inch displays with Full-HD Plus resolution (2,246 by 1,080 pixels) in an 18:9 format.

The main difference between the two models is that the 5Z has Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 845 processor, while the 5 makes do with a Snapdragon 636 chip. Both chips also use AI to boost their performance.

Both phones have the same 7.6-millimetre-thick unibody metal case in silver or blue-black with rounded edges and, like the iPhone X, a notch at the top of the screen. This houses the speaker and the front camera. The backs of the phones have a fingerprint sensor and a dual-lens camera (8 megapixels and 12 megapixels).

This camera has a new Sony image sensor, the IMX363, and a 120-degree wide-angle lens. It also offers a four-axis optical image stabiliser for photos and three-axis electronic stabilisation for video. The latter can be recorded in 4K resolution at up to 30 frames per second.

The Zenfone 5, with 4 gigabytes (GB) of RAM and 64 GB of storage capacity, is expected to hit markets in late June for €400 (RM1,941). The Zenfone 5Z, with twice as much RAM and storage, should follow in July for €600 (RM2,912). — dpa
