Google has been busy polishing up all its apps with what it calls a material design, a look and feel already familiar to most Android users. You'll now also see it when you next update the Gmail app.

Google has announced that it is rolling out a new design of its Gmail app for Android and iOS, as part of a general redesign of all Google apps.

The new look will have Google's "Material Theme" design incorporated as well, a look that is already in use on other Google products such as Drive, Calendar and Google Docs.

The redesign will also make it easier to switch between accounts – such as work or private – and look at attachments, making it unnecessary to open the full email just to open attached docs and pictures.

And, as the tech giant puts it, "you’ll get big, red warnings to alert you when something looks phish-y". – dpa
