The drop in national broadband speed is due to the surge in demand for bandwidth, however there are measures in place to ensure continued stable Internet access, according to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)

It said that coinciding with the movement control order (MCO), which required citizens to stay indoors, Internet traffic increased by 23.5% during the first week of the order, while the second week saw a further 8.6% increase.
