Zoom recently announced that its famous video conferencing service will soon be available in Tesla cars. That will make it possible for you to take part in a Zoom meeting from behind the wheel of your car – but only when you are not moving.

The announcement was made at the Zoomtopia 2022 keynote. Now, in addition to in your home, your office, on your computer, phone or even TV, it will soon be possible to use Zoom in your car. Well, in a Tesla car, to start with.

This means that while you’re charging your car on a Supercharger or taking a break at a highway rest stop, you’ll be able to sit behind the wheel of your Tesla and connect to a video conference. Eventually, the idea is to be able to use Zoom from anywhere, so that you don’t have to miss any meeting.

Of course it’s already possible to participate in a Zoom meeting from your car, simply by using the dedicated application on your smartphone. But this is the first time it gets integrated into a car’s onboard system. The app uses the camera inside the Tesla to stream the user, who will be able to see the other meeting participants on the central screen of his car. However, don’t even think about using it while driving; Zoom can only be activated when the car is stopped.

Zoom will be available as “standard on all new Tesla models soon”. We can bet that most of the current owners will also be entitled to it, via a simple remote update. Technically, Zoom has not yet specified what type of connection will be used to access its services, whether it will be via a simple local WiFi network or via a paid subscription to a premium connection. – AFP Relaxnews
