PETALING JAYA: Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said that a screenshot of a Twitter post claiming that his ministry will be taking action against individuals using the hashtags #KerajaanKoyak and #PMKoyak is fake.

Fahmi issued a statement on his Facebook page today (Dec 14), describing the post as an attempt by irresponsible parties to spread slander. He also said people should check for veracity before sharing.

The fake Twitter screenshot appears to have been widely shared by users on Facebook, which has reportedly led some to accuse the minister of suppressing freedom of speech.

On Dec 8, Fahmi said the government is committed to defend the right to freedom of speech. He added, however, it should never be used to the point of defamation or for making baseless accusations.
