Elon Musk considering bid to buy football team, but not the Washington Commanders

Elon Musk could be getting ready for his next big-ticket purchase.

Front Office Sports reports the Twitter and Tesla CEO is kicking the tires on buying Manchester United.

Elon Musk is reportedly interested in making a US$5.4bil (RM23.69bil) move to buy Manchester United Football Club, per the UK’s Daily Mail. He’s believed to be “monitoring the situation”.

According to various news reports, Musk joked on Twitter in August that “he was buying Manchester United – later deleting the Tweet, but clarifying that if he were to buy a team, it would be United, his ‘fav team as a kid’.”

The Glazer family, which also owns the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is “reportedly seeking around US$7.3bil (RM32.02bil) for a full takeover – but expressed interest in only a partial sale last week”.

Musk can certainly afford to buy the team. According to Forbes, he’s worth US$191.8bil (RM841.52bil). And he’s not the only one with deep pockets considering a bid for Manchester United.

Bloomberg reports a “Qatari consortium is preparing to submit an initial bid for the English Premier League football cub by the end of the week”.
