Do not disturb: Use this Windows 11 setting for some peace and quiet

HAMBURG: Windows 11 now features a new "do not disturb" mode to help people who are trying to concentrate on their work or to make it easier to read.

Users can simply mute all operating system notifications that otherwise might prove a distraction.

That can work in a series of ways. You can click on the notification icon in the taskbar, a highlighted number that appears when you have notifications. If you select notification settings, you can activate the "do not disturb" mode by setting the switch to "on."

One tip is if you don't want to receive notifications at certain times of the day or during certain activities, it is easy to click the option: Automatically activate "Do not disturb."

Alternatively, Microsoft support says you can also get to the notification settings by heading first to "start" then "settings" then by selecting "system" followed by "notifications" and change your settings. This is also an option in the more widely used Windows 10.

Don't worry about losing your notifications, as you can view them in the Info Centre at any time, even if they've been blocked. – dpa
