CelcomDigi extends its free 5G trials to the end of April

CelcomDigi has announced an extension of its free 5G trial access until April 30 this year for its Celcom network, while introducing its new 5G Booster add-on for Digi users.

The 5G booster add-on will grant 5G connectivity to Digi prepaid and postpaid users from today onwards on certain plans, and will be available for free until the end of the trial, after which it will incur an RM10 monthly fee.

This fee will however be waived for those on Digi postpaid plans above RM90.

A full list of eligible plans is available on an FAQ page on the Digi website. To activate the add-on, simply launch the MyDigi app, navigate to “buy add-ons” and purchase a 5G booster.

Users should then receive an SMS confirming 5G activation.

Meanwhile, the Celcom network 5G trial will still be available for postpaid users subscribed to the Celcom Mega Lightning plan 80, 98, 128, 158, 188 and Family Line, along with the Xpax Postpaid 40 and 60 plans.

5G network access will also be available to prepaid customers using the Xpax 35 and 45 plans.

An interesting note from the Celcom FAQ page is a mention that the Mega Lightning 188 plan will get a quota upgrade during the 5G trial period.

This brings the plan’s data quota from 120GB to 2TB, which is quite a substantial upgrade, though only temporary since it will be reverting back to the original once the trial ends.

CelcomDigi also mentioned that it would be announcing further 5G offerings in Q2 this year, which it says will give more flexibility to users’ 5G experience.

Those subscribed to an eligible plan but do not have 5G should check Digital Nasional Berhad’s (DNB) website to see if they are within the coverage area and whether the device in question has 5G support in Malaysia.

If the requirements are all met, users should have received an SMS stating they are able to access 5G, and be automatically connected.

Those still experiencing issues despite having fulfilled the criteria can reach out to the Celcom network support line at 1111, or visit a Blue Cube outlet in person.

The telco previously started testing its 5G network offering with a Friendly User Trial (FUT) back in September last year, which gave eligible users 5G access in limited locations without data quota or charges.

Later in November, CelcomDigi made access to 5G network services available for free to users with 5G-enabled devices within the coverage area.
