West Deer police accused four men of kicking down the door of a home after one of them tracked the cellphone of a woman inside he was trying to meet up with, according to investigators.

Police filed felony charges of burglary and criminal conspiracy against Joseph Robert Carney, 20, of McKees Rocks; Brandon Cooper Hawkins, 19, of Bethel Park; Hunter Daniel Loncar, 21, of Industry; and Gage John Keefe, 20, of Beaver Falls.

They were released on nonmonetary bonds. They were ordered to appear for separate preliminary hearings April 19 before District Judge Tom Swan, court records show.

Police wrote in a criminal complaint that officers dispatched to a home along Plant Street on Sunday found Carney standing outside his Nissan SUV with the other three men sitting inside.

Carney told investigators that he drove to the home from Morgantown, W.Va., and was about to leave when police arrived, according to the complaint. His arrest papers did not say whether he gave police a reason for making the trip.

Police detained Carney while the other three men were questioned, the complaint said.

The men told an officer that they were asleep and had "no idea what happened," according to their arrest papers.

One of the four people in the house told police that she previously had spoken with Carney. She said he was able to track her down through her cellphone to the house in West Deer, the complaint said.

She told police that Carney came to the house to try to "pick her up," investigators said.

Two witnesses in the home said Carney drove to the back of the house, and that he and his three passengers kicked in the basement door to get inside, according to the complaint.

The woman who Carney allegedly was trying to meet told police the four men took a small safe that was kept under the staircase but she was able to convince them to return it, the complaint said.

Police noted in the complaint that there was a shoeprint on the bottom of the basement door and the frame was sheered off at the bolt side. – The Tribune-Review, Greensburg/Tribune News Service
