Acer Malaysia has launched its latest line-up of Predator gaming laptops, featuring the Helios 16 and Helios 18, both equipped with a 13th generation Intel processor and up to a beefy RTX 4080 graphics card.

Interestingly, the laptops are only available with an Intel i9 in Malaysia, while releases outside the country also include the option for a lower-end processor.

On the storage front, buyers have the option to add up to a 2TB NVMe solid-state drive (SSD), and up to 32GB of DDR5 RAM running at 5,600Mhz.

The Predator Helios 16 and 18 laptops have 16in and 18in displays, respectively (which is the main difference between the models), with WQXGA (2,560 by 1,600 pixels) resolution and up to 240Hz refresh rate.

They also support 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space with 500nit peak brightness, something that design professionals who need a high degree of colour accuracy in their work will appreciate.

While the laptops launched with three different panel options internationally, Malaysia will only be receiving the IPS version.

The laptops let users create custom profiles for different gaming scenarios to, for instance, optimise performance and record macros through their PredatorSense 4 software.

The Nvidia Advance Optimus feature in the Predator Helio laptops helps to extend battery life by automatically switching between the discrete graphics card, which consumes more power, and the integrated one, which is more energy efficient.

For extended gaming sessions, Acer included a custom-engineered 5th generation AeroBlade 3D fan, which the company claims has the world’s thinnest metal fan blades capable of creating greater airflow. Both models have RGB-backlit keyboards with N-key rollover (a feature that can detect an unlimited number of simultaneous key presses) and a number pad.

Aesthetically, the Helios laptops sport a sleek black build with thinner edges and bezels, removable decorative vents at the fan exhaust that can be used to personalise the laptop’s look, and a customisable RGB light bar on top of the back vents.

The laptops will be available in May on the Acer eStore and official shops on both Shopee and Lazada, with prices starting from RM8,999.
