A New Cumberland man has been arrested on accusations he sexually abused several teenage students at the martial arts studio where he worked.
Devin Hogue, 23, of the 500 block of Ridge Road, had several inappropriate interactions with four teenage girls that, in some instances, escalated to sexual assault and indecent contact, according to New Cumberland Borough Police.
Hogue, a karate instructor at Elite Martial Arts in New Cumberland, friended on Snapchat several of the underaged girls he taught, Michael Bowen, a New Cumberland Borough police officer, wrote in court documents.
Hogue also led two girls to the kitchen of the Elite Martial Arts building to assault them, Bowen said. One of them said that Hogue told her about his relationships with other students, according to Bowen.
Hogue asked another victim if they could have sex, and she turned him down. So instead, Hogue threatened to have her thrown out of karate class if she did not send him nude photos, according to police.
On one occasion, Hogue told one of the victims she was a better kisser than another, Bowen said.
Another victim told police she did not want to kiss Hogue, but knew his family had money, so she kissed him, according to Bowen. She said Hogue sent her sexually explicit messages and told her to sit in the back of the class so they could sneak away to have “alone time,” according to police.
Hogue asked the victims to send him nude photos, and told them to delete their text messages and Snapchats, according to Bowen. Bowen said that Hogue would refuse to be in a romantic relationship with the girls because of their age, but would still lead them off to assault them in areas he knew there are no cameras, according to Bowen.
District Judge Paul Fegley arraigned Hogue on charges of sexual abuse of children, sexual assault by employee of a nonprofit association, unlawful contact with minors, corruption of minors, indecent assault and indecent exposure, and set bail to US$75,000.
Hogue will remain in Cumberland County Prison until he posts bail or appears before District Judge Christopher Delozier for his preliminary hearing June 8. – pennlive.com/Tribune News Service
