Twitter user apologises for offensive Hadi Awang tweet

PETALING JAYA: A Twitter user who goes by the handle @Zaki_Yamani_ has apologised after posting an offensive tweet about PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.

“Mengambil perhatian ciapan YAB PM @anwaribrahim dan pandangan rakan-rakan, saya memohon maaf kepada isteri-isteri dan keluarga Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang andai ciapan saya ini mengguris perasaan (After considering the views of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and friends, I apologise to the wives and family of Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang if my tweet caused any hurt feelings),” he said in a tweet today (July 3).

On July 2, Anwar expressed his objection and regret over a disrespectful tweet posted by an individual who goes by ‘Zaki Yamani’ and urged him to apologise immediately.

In his tweet posted on July 1, @Zaki_Yamani_ had made some offensive statements in relation to Abdul Hadi’s health condition. The tweet has gained 1.3 million views.

A local news portal has reported that the poster is an aide to Anwar’s political secretary. The ‘Zaki Yamani’ in question has, however, denied the allegations in a tweet posted on July 1.

Separately, mstar reported that 17-year-old singer Zaki Yamani denied being the person that Anwar had reprimanded in his tweet. On Instagram, the singer explained that the Prime Minister was referring to a different user, adding that he was innocent.
