Netizens are rallying behind a woman who posted a video claiming that a TikTok influencer asked her father to pay RM1,800 for a restaurant review.

The woman who goes by the handle alinkiwi said in the video that her father – who runs a restaurant serving 'Roti John' in Melaka – was approached by an individual claiming to be ‘TikTok famous’ and wanted to review the food at the restaurant.

Alinkiwi said her father agreed to let the individual review the restaurant, however, he changed his mind after the individual asked him to pay RM1,800 as a review fee.

“So my father asked why does he have to pay and the individual said for them to make the restaurant ‘go viral’,” alinkiwi said, adding the individual then offered to discount the fee to RM1,500.

Alinkiwi went on to say that she has had enough of individuals trying to fool her father, whom she described as elderly.

“Stop lying to old folks by asking them to pay for their restaurants to be reviewed,” she said, claiming that even notable YouTuber Food Ranger (with five million subscribers) had previously reviewed her father’s restaurant without asking for any payment.

Alinkiwi’s video has gotten more than 960,000 views on TikTok, where most users have asked her to reveal the name of the ‘TikTok famous’ person who asked for the restaurant review fee.

Some also agreed with her message to remind other individuals out there not to take advantage of the elderly.

In a subsequent reply to other users, alinkiwi claimed that the ‘TikTok famous’ individual who came to her father’s restaurant has 100,000 followers with little engagement as their other videos have each averaged less than 1,000 views.
