Update: Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil responded to LifestyleTech about his 5G mobile test, saying: "I am currently part of a user trial to provide feedback on the 5G network."

PETALING JAYA: Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil took to the stage to show off his 5G mobile test speed at the Jelajah Madani event in Tanjung Karang, Selangor last night (July 12).

He tweeted: "Malam ini di Kg Bukit Belimbing, Tg Karang, atas pentas ceramah, saya test 5G: kelajuan 692 Mbps!"

He said this as a response to Kedah MB Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor who apparently made a remark about Fahmi saying that he needs to focus on 5G during an event in Selayang.

Based on his Speedtest results, however, users on Twitter have turned their attention to his Internet provider listed as "5G Maxis".

With 5G Maxis listed on Fahmi's mobile, users have asked if Maxis 5G is finally available and even asked if it's only for ministers?

In a response to a user who asked “when did Maxis start offering 5G” and “why it isn't available for the rakyat”, the company said that it will launch 5G-related products and services soon.

To date, Maxis has not started providing 5G services to users as the company has yet to sign the access agreement with wholesale 5G network provider Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB).

Maxis has previously tested its 5G services at select areas in the country with local portal Amanz reporting that it started trialling the service in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan back in December.

LifestyleTech has reached out to Maxis and Fahmi.
