LONDON (Reuters) - Amazon will hire up to 2,000 people to staff a new fulfilment centre in Britain, located in Stockton-on-Tees, north east England, which it is due to open in October, the company said on Tuesday.

Amazon said a staff of 1,000 will initially be required before it adds additional employees as activity ramps up.

The company announced plans to shut three older warehouses in Britain in January, impacting 1,200 jobs, with workers given the chance to transfer to other units.
