BERLIN: With their cannons, swords and big ships, pirates are not to be underestimated on the high seas. But the fact that they can also be a danger on land is shown in the strategy game "Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew." Players find themselves on a ghost ship with a supernatural crew of cursed pirates. On a nearby group of islands, a dangerous horde of undead is up to no good and is also hiding a powerful treasure.
Without further ado, you put together a search party and enter the well-guarded enemy realm.
In order to get the undead out of the game, you have to be focussed. Since you'll quickly be outnumbered in battle, you'd better sneak through the fortresses out of sight of the many guards.
Attacks can be carried out unnoticed from behind, or magic can be used to cast a spell on enemies or to find new hiding places.
Tactics are of the utmost importance. At the touch of a button, you can pause the action to plan your attack and thus finish off enemies with several abilities at once. The right composition of pirates, who each have different skills, is also vital.
Ships aren't boarded in “Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew,” but there’s still plenty of loot to be had. For pirate game fans this one is worth digging out of the treasure chest. The game is available for PCs, PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S for around €40/US$40 (RM99 in Malaysia). – dpa
