YTL Communication’s Yes announced that it has received official support from Apple with the release of iOS version 17.1 last week.

The update will provide 5G connectivity to the telco’s customers with 5G-capable iPhones, while also enabling a new collection of features such as eSIM, VoLTE (Voice over LTE), FaceTime over cellular, personal hotspot, and WiFi calling.

To access these new features, Yes users will first need to update their iPhone to iOS 17.1.

This can be done by navigating to the “Software Update” section in the settings menu and then selecting the option to download and install the new version.

Do note that the update is only available to iPhone XS and newer devices, leaving out those launched before 2018, while only iPhone 12 and newer devices are 5G-capable.

For a full list of Apple smartphones with 5G support in Malaysia, users can refer to the list on the Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) website.

Apple initially added 5G support for certain Malaysian telcos in December 2022 with iOS 16.2, and later to other local telcos including Yes via a public opt-in beta program for iOS 16.4 in February this year.

The launch of iOS 17.1 also adds features such as AirDrop over the Internet, enhancements to StandBy and Apple Music, security updates, and bug fixes.
