Netflix is continuing its foray into the world of gaming. As such, 10 new video games will join its catalogue, including adaptations of well-known movies and shows such as Money Heist (La Casa De Papel) and Chicken Run.
Netflix has more treats in store for video-game-loving subscribers. At the Geeked Week 2023 event, which ended on Sunday, Nov 12, the streaming platform announced new game projects inspired by its hit movies and shows.
A game based on the fantasy series Shadow & Bone is already available on mobile. In Shadow & Bone: Enter The Fold, the story takes place between the show’s first and second seasons. It plunges players into an interactive role-playing game, allowing them to discover new stories and meet characters from the series, while answering multiple-choice questions.
Another series getting its own game is Money Heist aka La Casa De Papel. In this Money Heist game, Netflix subscribers will instantly recognise the features of the actors who play characters from the now cult series, such as Rio, Berlin and the Professor. The aim of the game is to pull off a heist at La Perla Museo de Barcelona.
Once again, the mobile game is interactive, with each choice having an impact on the course of the story. The game's release should coincide with that of Berlin, a spin-off of the Spanish series, scheduled to land Dec 29, 2023, on Netflix.
The American streaming giant has also made a game based on Chicken Run, titled Chicken Run: Eggstraction. The game picks up where Chicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget leaves off. This animated film will be available on Netflix on Dec 15, 2023. The game, meanwhile, should be available in 2024 on iOS and Android, first in single-player mode and then in a multiplayer version.
Players will have to complete several missions and challenges in order to save the chickens. In a news release, Netflix describes the game as a “real time, top-down heist game that combines squad-based infiltration with high-octane, chaotic escapes”.
Netflix is also launching The Dragon Prince: Xadia, a game based on the animated series The Dragon Prince. Players will be immersed in the world of Xadia, and will be able to meet the series' heroes and complete several missions, fighting alongside the greatest champions against the prince's enemies.
Scheduled for release in 2024, the game will initially be available on mobile, but also on PC. Launched on Netflix in 2018, a sixth season of the Prince Of Dragons is scheduled for release soon.
Netflix launched into the world of gaming in November 2021. In two years, its catalogue has grown to more than 80 mobile games, accessible free of charge to all platform subscribers.
To attract gamers, the streaming giant has, from the outset, been banking on video game adaptations of its biggest onscreen hits, such as Stranger Things: 1984, Stranger Things 3: The Game, Narcos: Cartel Wars Unlimited or The Queen’s Gambit Chess. And for good reason: according to one study, young people may actually prefer video games to movies. – AFP Relaxnews
