Google is testing a new tool allowing users to post 'Notes' on search results

Google has announced that it is currently testing a new feature it calls "Notes" in Search Labs, the company's program that allows users to try out new features that are still under development.

Functioning much like Twitter's (now X) Community Notes feature, Google's Search Notes will allow users to make annotations on specific webpages.

These annotations or notes can then be shown alongside those from other users when that specific webpage appears in search results.

Notes will only be shown to users who have opted in to the feature and tap on the "Notes" button underneath the webpage link on the results page to open up the Notes section.

Unlike the feature on Twitter however, search result Notes can have customised text, stickers, and even photos, along with the ability to add an AI-generated image in the works, looking closer in appearance to something like an Instagram or Facebook Story.

Google says that its goal with the Lab experiment is "to provide access to helpful tips about an article or topic from both experts and everyday people."

The feature is currently being tested on mobile devices among users in the US and India, without any indication from Google on when it will be making its way to Malaysia.

This comes after Google expanded its AI-powered Search Generative Experience (SGE), to over 120 new countries including Malaysia.
