ROME: Italian grandmother Natalina Moroni, 88, has become an Internet celebrity with classic recipes from Tuscany but she has now become the victim of a blackmail attempt.

According to her grandson Luca Mercati, the TikTok page of “Nonna Natalina” (Grandma Natalina) was hijacked by hackers and is no longer accessible.

Mercati told the Italian news agency ANSA on Monday that the blackmailers were demanding a ransom of €1,000 (RM5,058) to get the site back online. However, the woman from the small town of Sansepolcro in Tuscany immediately went to the police.

Nonna Natalina has more than one million followers on social networks. The success began some time ago when the grandson filmed his grandmother in the kitchen and posted the video online. Since then, the videos featuring the little old lady have been clicked hundreds of thousands of times.

A few days ago, the 88-year-old was officially authorised to call herself an Italian food ambassador. – dpa
