In 2023, the social network X, formerly known as Twitter, saw an increase in sports-related posts. Four billion tweets about sports were posted this year on X, compared to 3.7 billion tweets in 2021.
In 2023, the social network X, formerly known as Twitter, totaled no less than four billion posts about sport. This is a significant increase on previous years, with 3.7 billion tweets in 2021 and 2.7 billion in 2020. Although data for 2022 is not provided, this upward trend is evident, reports Social Media Today.
The X social network is particularly popular with Generation Z, with 200 million monthly users from this age group. In total, X has 550 million monthly active users. However, a decline in engagement has been observed. According to Linda Yaccarino, CEO of X Corp., in September there were between 100 and 200 million tweets per day, a notable decline from the 500 million average daily posts in 2013.
In October 2023, Linda Yaccarino revised her earlier statements, claiming that the social network was now seeing 500 million tweets a day. These figures break down into 100 million original tweets, 100 million replies, and 300 million retweets and quoted tweets. Interestingly, 80% of users never post on the app, preferring to use it in "read only" mode.
According to Social Media Today, sports engagement remains significant on X, with an estimated 11.43% of original posts relating to sport, testifying to users' interest in this topic.
Meanwhile, after introducing X Spaces audio rooms, this feature appears to have proved a resounding success. Over 28 million X Spaces have been launched on the platform since its acquisition by Elon Musk. Yaccarino revealed that over 130,000 X Spaces were held over the weekend of Dec 16-17. Users spent a total of 2.4 million hours listening to conversations in these audio rooms, a figure that illustrates the impact and popularity of this new feature. – AFP Relaxnews
