PETALING JAYA: Maxis has issued a warning notice to its subscribers to be wary of scam messages via SMS, purportedly sent by the telco, promoting a non-existent reward points system.

“You may receive SMS falsely claiming to be from Maxis or asking you to redeem your points for rewards.

“Please note that these messages are fake and not from Maxis! We do not have such (a) reward points system,” says the telco in a notice sent to subscribers and posted on its website.

Maxis further urges subscribers to be wary of suspicious URL links, recommending against clicking on, making payments to, or providing personal information via such links.

“If the URL link appears suspicious, do not click on it. This could lead to identity theft or hackers getting into your bank accounts,” Maxis warns.

The telecommunications provider further advises those unsure of the legitimacy of any SMS messages to visit the company's corporate website or contact its official support channels.

The notice from Maxis also points subscribers to a page on its website containing information on common scams and frauds, along with those most frequently targeted by scammers.
