PETALING JAYA: Maybank has assured customers that its systems remain secure amid claims that its Maybank2u database is being offered for sale on a dark web forum.

"With respect to the alleged claim, Maybank would like to reassure our customers that our systems remain secure, and all Maybank customers' information is fully protected," it said in a statement posted today (July 24) on Facebook and X.

On July 23, a dark web monitoring website reported that a user has offered an alleged Maybank2u database with details like name, password and MyKad number for sale on a popular dark web forum for US$18,000 (RM84,159). Based on checks by LifestyleTech today, it appears that the post can no longer be found on the forum.

After the alleged database was highlighted by the dark web monitoring website on X, users on the platform raised concerns and urged Maybank to provide a statement.

Maybank said it takes security concerns "very seriously" and has various fraud counter measures in place, including Secure2U to authenticate transactions and cooling-off period for high-risk transactions.

It reminded customers to be vigilant and take measures to protect their personal information.

"Please keep your User ID, password and personal details safe, and be cautious of malware, WhatsApp messages and phishing sites and phone calls requesting your credentials," it added.
