Customers on selected Digi postpaid plans will no longer enjoy a special rate for calls or SMSes to contacts under the ‘Friends and Family’ list from Sept 18 onwards.

"All calls and SMS made will be charged according to the call and SMS rate of your Digi postpaid plan," CelcomDigi said in an announcement on its Help page.

The announcement will impact customers on eight postpaid plans: for Ambassador, DG30(s) and DG Smart Plan 48, the call rate is set at 13sen per 30 seconds; while for those on DG Smart Plan 65V and 75V, as well as Digi Postpaid Ambassador 68, 68V and 78V, the call rate is unlimited for all networks.

The SMS rate for all the selected postpaid plans will be set at 10sen per message.

Based on checks, some of these appear to be legacy plans that are no longer being offered to new customers.

For example, DG Smart Plan 48 which was introduced in 2011 allowed unlimited calls and SMSes to three contacts registered under the Friends and Family list while users under the Digi Ambassador 68 plan, introduced back in 2017, could enjoy unlimited SMS for all networks to three Friends and Family contacts.

The telco recommended that customers on the affected plans switch to CelcomDigi Postpaid 5G plans starting from RM40 per month, which it claimed comes with unlimited calls to all networks and ultrafast Internet data plans.
