PETALING JAYA: Users who received an SMS, allegedly from Bank Rakyat, indicating possible data-related issues in the bank’s system are sharing their concerns on social media.

On the Facebook page Pendakwah Teknologi, admin Adil Hidayat shared a screenshot of the purported text message sent from the short code 66300.

The text stated, "There is a possibility of data-related issues detected in our system. The security level and system improvements are actively being enhanced/carried out. If you experience any problems or notice any suspicious transactions, please contact the Bank Rakyat Call Centre immediately. (Wujud kemungkinan isu berkaitan data yang dikesan dalam system kami.Tahap keselamatan dan penambaikan system sedang giat dipertingkat/dijalankan. Sekiranya ada mengalami sebarang permasalahan atau terdapat transaksi yang diragui, segera hubungi Pusat Panggilan Bank Rakyat.)"

Users commented that they are worried about a possible data breach, while some applauded the bank for its honesty in not wanting to panic customers. Others felt this could be a scam attempt, and one user jokingly asked the hacker to get rid of his loans.

Pendakwah Teknologi’s post has received more than 230 comments.

On X (formerly Twitter), some users claimed to have received the SMS despite not being customers of the bank.

When contacted, Bank Rakyat said it will be issuing a statement on the issue soon. LifestyleTech has also reached out to the National Cyber Security Agency (Nacsa) for comments.
