Music streaming platform Spotify has announced the arrival of its AI Playlist feature, in beta version, for paying users in the USA, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand. The idea is to use algorithms to select tracks according to the tastes and specific requests of the application's users.

After a test phase running since the spring in the UK and Australia, this feature is now officially rolling out in four other countries, in English, on Android and iOS. With AI Playlist, users can give free rein to their creativity to make the perfect soundtrack for any moment or mood.

With a simple text-based description, listeners can instantly create a playlist to suit their mood or a particular event. Spotify cites prompts such as "upbeat pop music for my European summer vacation,” "desert house music for driving through Joshua Tree” or "a romantic playlist for date night at home” as examples. It's also possible to reference places, animals, activities, movie characters, colors and even emojis. In all cases, Spotify offers a personalised selection of songs that match the desired mood, and which can be refined by entering further instructions.

Where possible, these playlists mix genres, moods, artists and eras. This beta version refuses to process offensive requests and does not take into account brand-related requests. As always with this type of innovation, English is the language of choice for the time being.

AI made its appearance on Spotify in 2023 with the arrival of personalised recommendations for its entire audio offering, including podcasts and audiobooks. For these formats, AI analyses all spoken content, the aim being to make the recommendation process even faster and more efficient. In the same way, certain sensitive content can be excluded from certain profiles. In addition, Spotify has launched an AI-powered voice translation tool, capable of offering certain podcasts in several languages using a cloned version of the podcaster's own voice. – AFP Relaxnews
