PETALING JAYA: MyDigital ID apologised on its website for registration difficulties, stating that a preliminary investigation indicates multiple factors, some unrelated to its platform, may have contributed to the issue.

In the statement, MyDigital ID attributed the problems to factors like blurry facial recognition photos and device-related issues.

"For example, during the facial recognition process, unclear facial features (photos) may affect the system’s ability to capture data accurately.

"We have also found that some users did not enable their device cameras, preventing the application from completing the facial recognition process.

"Additionally, device-related issues, such as difficulties downloading the app, also played a role in the online registration process," it stated.

MyDigital ID said that it received an influx of new registrations – 150,000 – within 24 hours following an announcement made in the MyJPJ app that MyDigital ID will be required for logins from Oct 10.

MyDigital ID added that its technical team has been constantly monitoring the registration system, adding that based on its logs, there have been no wait times in the past 48 hours, suggesting external causes for the issue.

It has also deployed over 100 agents to 84 Road Transport Department (JPJ) locations nationwide to assist with in-person MyDigital ID registration.

The requirement was later deferred, with Transport Minister Anthony Loke announcing at a press conference on Wednesday (Oct 3) that users can continue accessing the MyJPJ app without MyDigital ID.

MyDigital ID registrations can also be done at 212 National Registration Department (JPN) and select Tealive outlets nationwide. A full list of kiosk locations is available on its website.

Users in need of assistance or further information can contact its hotline at 03-8687 2772 or reach out via email at info@digital-id.my.

LifestyleTech initially reported yesterday (Oct 2) that a MyDigital ID hotline representative said the registration issues had been due to an overwhelmingly large number of users attempting to register on the app.
