The 2024 App Store Awards once again recognise the cream of the crop in terms of applications and games currently available in Apple’s online store. A total of 17 applications are crowned with this year’s honours.
The title of iPhone app of the year goes to Kino, which transforms users' daily lives into cinematic works of art thanks to movie-inspired filters and a host of advanced options. On the iPad, the award goes to Moises, an application that supports musicians with a range of tools powered by artificial intelligence.
On Mac, Adobe's Lightroom, a must-have for photo editing, was once again honoured. The Lumy application for the Apple Watch is also a winner this year, for its ability to track natural light and plan outdoor activities during the day.
On Apple TV, the F1 TV app, which allows viewers to follow the entire Formula 1 season live, won the prize. As for Apple Vision Pro, What If...? An Immersive Story, from Disney, was named the year's top application.
In the games category, winner AFK Journey combines adventure and strategy on the iPhone. Other winners include Squad Busters (iPad), Thank Goodness You're Here! (Mac), Thrasher: Arcade Odyssey (Apple Vision Pro) and Balatro+ (Apple Arcade category).
The App Store Awards also highlight applications and games that have had a significant cultural impact this year. These include: Oko, which helps the visually impaired get around town; EF Hello, which helps people learn new languages based on realistic scenarios; DailyArt, for discovering works of art; NYT Games, which offers fun family games; The Wreck, a 3D interactive story about sisterhood, motherhood, grief and survival; and Do You Really Want to Know 2, which presents different aspects of life with HIV.
This year's winners were chosen from 45 finalists selected by App Store editors for their excellence in user experience, design and innovation. Launched in 2008, the App Store is now home to nearly two million applications. – AFP Relaxnews
