Google has announced the arrival of a helpful automatic dubbing tool on YouTube. It will now be much easier to watch certain videos by international creators, especially if you don't speak their language.

This new automatic dubbing feature will allow users to view videos by influencers or other content creators in another language. So if the video is in English, it can be dubbed into French, German, Spanish, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese or Portuguese. If it is in one of these other languages, it can be dubbed into English.

In all cases, this automatic dubbing makes access to content more universal, and therefore promises to boost audiences.

Google has said that this feature has just been made available to hundreds of thousands of channels, but for the moment, it mainly concerns channels in the YouTube Partner Program focusing on knowledge and information. It will soon be extended to other types of content. For example, you can already test the effectiveness of this automatic dubbing on videos by the most popular YouTuber of them all, MrBeast.

For the creators concerned, there's no need to do anything, as YouTube automatically detects the language of the video and creates dubbed versions accordingly. Those who wish to see their dubbed videos (if applicable) can find them in YouTube Studio, in the "Languages” section.

If they're not satisfied with the result, they can simply delete them. As Google points out, this technology is not infallible. For users, simply go to the settings of the video being played to see if it has an "Audio” menu from which you can choose the language of your choice.

YouTube is not the first major platform to take advantage of the latest technologies to develop a multilingual offering. In 2023, for example, Spotify inaugurated a voice translation tool powered by artificial intelligence, capable of offering some of the platform's most popular podcasts in several languages, and even using a cloned version of the podcaster's voice. – AFP Relaxnews
