Recently I took the Euro train from London to Paris and got down at the Gare du Nord station. I stayed in a hotel close to the station and while walking about I stumbled on a row of shops owned by Sri Lankan Tamils near the station. They had come here as refugees during the civil war in Sri Lanka, and today a vibrant Sri Lankan Tamil community runs restaurants, music shops, saree shops, groceries, etc.
These shops, surprisingly, use Tamil in their signboards and cater mainly to the needs of Indians in the area.
