Exploring Bario's magical trail

Picture perfect: Pa Lungan is a lovely village that produces pristine Bario highland rice.

What can be magical despite physical hardship and bare basic living conditions? The answer may be a trek in the highlands of Sarawak during Christmas.

THE HoHoHo Trail is the nickname given by my friend Kelvin Egay, to the trail in the mountainous heartlands of Sarawak from Ba Kalalan to Bario. For the past four years during the Christmas season he has retraced this old trading route between these two villages that are separated by forested slopes.
