The late morning sun filtered through the leaves of a row of linden trees on the right bank of the river Rhine in Basel, making a dappled pattern on the ground. The leaves were a warm shade of yellow, announcing the onset of autumn. The air had a hint of nippiness, refreshing and without being uncomfortable.
