KUALA LUMPUR: Once relegated as something done by young girls, the selfie phenomenon is quickly catching on with society at large as even political figures are now seen doing it.

A selfie refers to self-portraits taken with a cameraphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website. Selfie has been named Oxford Dictionary’s word of the year, beating out words like twerk and binge-watching.
