Najib welcoming Cameron at Putrajaya

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak held talks with his British counterpart David Cameron here in conjunction with the latter's one-day working visit to Malaysia.

The two leaders held a meeting at Perdana Putra before proceeding for the delegation meeting.

Earlier, Najib had welcomed Cameron at the Perdana Square.

The British Prime Minister is on a one-day working visit to Malaysia as part of his four-nation visit to Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam and Malaysia to boost United Kingdom's (UK) trade and investment.

The Foreign Ministry in a statement said that Cameron's visit manifested the close and cordial ties between Malaysia and the UK.

It said both leaders would take stock of bilateral relations including in the areas of trade and investment, education and defence as well as cooperation within the framework of the Commonwealth and the United Nations.

Cameron is the first British Prime Minister to visit Malaysia in two successive terms. His previous visit was in April 2012.

According to www.gov.uk website, the British Prime Minister was joined by 31 representatives from businesses from every region of the UK throughout his Southeast Asia visit this time.

Cameron would also be accompanied by Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Sajid Javid, Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Lord Francis Maude, Minister for Small Business, Industry and Enterprise, Anna Soubry, and Minister of State for Defence Procurement, Philip Dunne. - Bernama
