Shares in steel manufacturers defy market trend

PETALING JAYA: Shares in some steel manufacturers surged in yesterday’s trade after a three-day break, defying the broader market trend.

The rally in steel counters came following a pick-up in global steel prices. The rally also came shortly after news that the Lion Group’s ailing steel miller, Megasteel Sdn Bhd, had suspended operations at its 17-year-old flat steel production plant in Banting, Selangor.
